Here, Hold My Napkin

written by LeviBethune on Jun 02

I play the piano a little bit, but this cat is the real deal. Going by the name “theNapkinHolder” on YouTube, he is a fan of European electro, Hip-Hop, whatever genre Britney Spears falls into, and Pop-rock music. He plays all that music on the piano, but as if he was getting paid by Nordstroms to ensure a stress-free shopping experience. You just have to hear it it all. I can’t describe it to you. Below is my favorite rendition of a Coldplay song I’ve ever heard in my life, and a beautiful, heart-felt JUSTICE cover.

He says he plays by ear, so he can’t provide sheet music to any of his transcriptions, and that just makes him all the more amazing to me, and by the looks of some of his YouTube comments, he has fans of his own:

narrenspiegel: wonderful <3
oanhyy: marry me!
2007renovatio: nice!!!!!!!!!
rainbowcamomille: you're my new idol.

What songs do you think he should cover? Sound off in the comments, and we’ll pass it along.

This Beat Is Military Issue

written by LeviBethune on May 25

I may be treading on Craig Kuhns‘ territory a bit by posting this because he is our video game specialist here at FanMadeDotOrg, but he knows I can beat him in a game of Call of Duty any time I want to, so there will be no complaints from him.

Using only in-game footage and weapon sound-effects from Call of Duty 4, YouTube user Serpento99 put together this awesome beat. You can also download the audio track from his website, you know, if you don’t want to risk having a seizure while watching this.

Do you play Call of Duty? What’s your favorite one? Sound off in the comments.

Fear the Beard

written by LeviBethune on May 22

Call it bromance, call it fandom, but I like me a good beard. And so do Hannah Rockcliffe and Sophie Madeleine who wrote this song about them. Performed by YouTube user RockyandBalls.

I have just enough Mexican blood in me that it makes it difficult for me to grow a solid, convincing beard, but I can grow a dirty mustache in about 10 minutes.

This post is dedicated to Ian Kelly and Matt Lockett. Fear the Beard.

Ladies, sound off in the comments. Beard, ‘Stache, or Shaven? Combination? Stubble?

Little Bribes in Stop Animation

written by LeviBethune on May 21

This was just dropped in my inbox, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you.

I’m a big fan of Death Cab for Cutie. Brilliant songwriters, and excellent showmanship. This video, done by a fan of Death Cab, is completely stop animation, time-lapse, and live camera tricks. I can only imagine the amount of time it took Ross Ching to create this, but I’m grateful, because I’ve already watched it 3 times in the past 10 minutes. Enjoy.

What’s your favorite Death Cab line or song? Sound off in the comments.

Mine comes from the song in this video: “You pretend that every slot machine is a robot amputee waving hello.”

(Thanks Craig)

Levi’s Top 3: Social Network Tributes

written by LeviBethune on May 20

Most of you reading this right now probably don’t remember what it was like without an online social network. Back when you had to use your mouth to speak words to other people. In fact, I’d wager that most of you don’t remember what it was like without cellphones. When you actually had to make eye-contact with people when you used your mouth to speak the aforementioned words.

These few songs were created by people who love their social networks. We at FanMadeDotOrg love our social networks. You can find us on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

If you could only live with ONE social network, which one would it be? Sound off in the comments.

An Apple Music Video

written by LeviBethune on May 18

Painstakingly beautiful use of the Apple OS X interface, applications, and tools.

I think there’s a PC version out there, but I’m sure it stops half-way through with a blue screen and odd noises.

(via YouTube user dennisaliu)

The song is ‘Again & Again’ by The Bird And The Bee.
