Set Phaser To Stun

written by IanKelly on Jan 29

(h/t)

I am green with jealous rage, right now! This is one of the coolest things ever. Anytime you can make anything Star Trek come to life, you should. It’s just the right thing to do.

But I’m not done. Not only did this guy build a functional phaser. He shows you how to, as well.

Trekkies, your time has come. Resistance is futile.

Graceland Magic

written by IanKelly on Jun 10

2 FBI agents, bound by fate and an insatiable hunger for truth, explore the unknown and seldom seen world of the unexplained and paranormal. Sound familiar? Yeah, it’s the X-Files. The greatest Sci-Fi show ever! (In my humble opinion.) The writers of the X-Files had an amazing way of taking a little and making a lot. From special effects to guest star appearances, The X-Files was gold. The master storytellers of the show weaved an unforgettable story of a conspiracy, propagated by an international alliance of governments, against the unassuming public of the world. The goal: To cover up, by any mean necessary, the existence of alien life.

Sure this sounds intense and perhaps not your shtick. That’s ok! The writers thought about that, too. Every episode fell into 2 categories. Either the episode was a “Conspiracy Episode” or it was a “Monster of the Week Episode.” (Brilliant, I know.)

Now as much as I would like to write more about The X-Files and their many triumphs in storytelling and special effects…  I won’t. Instead I want to point your direction to the video below.

This fan-made X-Files episode is a prime example of fan-made magic. The story as “far-fetched” as it seems is the in line with something we would see in the show. And it’s no secret that Mulder did have a special place in his heart for The King.

The actors did a great job of portraying Mulder’s humor and wit as well as Scully’s cynicism.

Keep in mind this is episode length so sit back, watch and enjoy.

Passing of the Torch

written by IanKelly on May 14

First, let me say, if you have not seen the new Star Trek movie, please, by all means , go and see it! I have seen it and are looking to go a second time very soon.

I have been a fan of Star Trek for as long as I have been a fan of Star Wars. I watched the original series and Next Gen. with my parents. I watched some of Deep Space Nine as well as Voyager and Enterprise with Scott Bakula (Yeah, Quantum Leap!) I had a Star Trek encyclopedia before passing it down to my little brother.

I am only one of many – not unlike the Borg – that are very happy with the way J.J. Abrams has rejuvenated the series. And I am eager to see more Trek movies from Abrams!

In honor of Star Trek fandom, spockboy put together a video tribute. The purpose of this, exceptionally great, video is to signify the “passing of the torch”, if you will, to the new faces of Star Trek legend. This guys love and knowledge of Star Trek is easily seen. Watch and remember the days of yore.

Levi’s Top 3: Lightsaber Fights

written by LeviBethune on May 13

If only these things were real. It’s the perfect weapon/toy. If it doesn’t kill you, it instantly cauterizes the wound… minimal mess.

Ryan Vs. Dorkman reigns supreme on this list, I think that is common knowledge to anyone who has seen them. There are plenty of others out there, so I’m only giving RvD2 a slot in my Top 3, but check out their first film at ryanvsdorkman.com

IAN ADDS: The finishing move on the 2nd video was sick. But the overall action, stunts, and intensity of the 1st video is amazing. Cheers! To those guys.

Theremin On The Enterprise

written by LeviBethune on May 08

Star Trek is in theaters today, but watching this won’t cost you $10 not including popcorn.

I was thinking about doing a “Levi’s Top 3” for Theremin themes, but honestly, when I found this gem, it just stole my heart.

Excellent ‘green screen’ to put the performer in the original Star Trek television show footage.

(mad props to synthtopia)

To Boldly Go…

written by IanKelly on May 08

With today being the opening day of the new Star Trek movie I thought it highly appropriate to give a quick “shout out” to Trekkies world wide (Live long and prosper).

Trekkies, what would Star Trek be without James Tiberius Kirk as portrayed by the one and only William Shatner. Let’s not even entertain that thought… watch this and remember the days of yore.

Created by flickr user lockwasher, this 16-in-tall droid is made from a slew of metal parts riveted together in elegant fashion.

This was featured on the Official StarWars Blog, and as you can imagine, the droid held a celebration(for droids 21 and up).

Star Wars As Done By The Masters

written by LeviBethune on May 04

This is a special MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU post.

What if Da Vinci had been a Star Wars fan? Worth1000.com held a contest that challenged you to put Star Wars characters, vehicles, props, or creatures in a classic painting. As Worth1000.com stated:

I went to an art gallery the other day. The artworks were all right, I guess, but you know what they were missing? Wookiees. There wasn’t one Wookiee in sight. Also no Jedis, no Storm Troopers … in fact none of the artworks had any Star Wars elements at all!

In this contest we’re going to rectify the art world’s mistake by placing Star Wars character, items, vehicles and scenes into classic art works. Paintings, tapestries and sculptures are all allowed.

Hit list: the Mona Lisa, Munch’s ‘The Scream’ and any painting by Norman Rockwell. Use them and your entry will be disqualified.

As always, quality is a must. We’ll remove poor images no matter how much we like you. You’ll have 48 hours for this contest, so make your submissions count.

I must warn you, some of the entries are NSFW as they contain some of the original nudity that was popular in the Post Impressionism period of art.

This is one of my favorites from the list:

Learn Your ABCs with Star Wars

written by LeviBethune on May 04

This is a special MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU post.

This set of very cheerful Star Wars art is blowing my mind up. I want to get a set of these for my son when he learns to read.

Made by American artist Michael Fleming, the Star Wars ABC series boast his artistic style of clean, colorful and vibrant illustrations.

My favorite, I think, is the letter B, for Bantha. Click here to see the whole alphabet on Flickr.

Boba Fett Never Looked So Cute

written by LeviBethune on Apr 28

These hand-made kokeshi dolls were crafted by American artist Muluc and are available for sale on his Etsy page.

Kokeshi Boba Fett

I actually bought the Han Solo and Princess Leia set. These guys are bigger than I thought they would be. Gotta support those fans.

Han and Leia

IAN SAYS: I have a Dwight Bobblehead and a Mike Huckabee Bobblehead on my deask. I think a Boba Fett would make an excellent adition.
