Star Wars Versus Nature

written by LeviBethune on Jun 30

I can’t get over the creativity and ingenuity of Chris McVeigh. He was able to get a Scout Tropper on the back of a Chipmunk.

(slow hand clap)

No special effects here (cough, Episodes 1-3), just really good photography. Bravo sir.

Check out his whole collection on Flickr. He has nods to Indiana Jones, LEGOs, and Batman. Brilliant photographer. Worth the look.

Pixelicious

Barcelona born, London schooled designer Christian Zuzunaga has further iconized the pixel with his graphic textile designs.  Over the last 4 years, he has collaborated with several other brilliant artists to create usable, functional, and wearable products.

Fan And The Furious

written by LeviBethune on Jun 26

This fan-made film about a boy and his BMW reminds me of the two Bimmers* I used to own.

Watch this in full screen, and in HD if you’re able. It’s beautifully shot, and the engine sounds have been captured by a true fan of the vehicle.

*“Bimmer” is the correct nickname for the four-wheeled Bavarian Motor Werks vehicles, and the oft-misused “Beamer” moniker is reserved for the motorcycles manufactured by the same company. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Hug and Be Hugged

written by KatieMann on Jun 25

Hug lovers/addicts now have a new way to hug. Forget the outdated bear hug, group hug, side hug, and the sandwich hug because the minds at Cute Circuit have created a hug that can now defy distance. With Bluetooth technology, it is now possible to give hugs no matter the proximity of the hugger. The patented Hug Shirt™ has embedded sensors and actuators that can transmit and receive the strength of the touch, the skin warmth, and the heartbeat rate of the hugger to the huggee. The hug is sent via a Bluetooth java enabled phone with the HugMe™ java software and the sensors and actuators on the shirt respond accordingly. Shirts are available in an array of color combinations to suit any style.

One small step for technology. One giant leap for huggers.

LEGO Indiana Jones

written by LeviBethune on Jun 24

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a fan favorite. It’s been parodied, sweded, and the entire opening sequence of the movie that shaped my childhood is based, nearly shot for shot, from ‘Raiders’. That movie is UHF with Weird Al Yankovic. If you’ve seen that movie, then it helps to explain why I am the way I am.

Darkwooddub993 loves ‘Raiders’ as well. He loves it so much he also has a live action version of this and a fight scene on his YouTube page. Apparently, he also loves to move the camera around during stop animation. With that in mind, I would suggest you do not view this video in full screen as it may make you physically uncomfortable. That may have just been my personal experience, and I’m sure I could partially blame that on the combination of Limeade and Poptarts.

Fanpire

Ok, so the title is full of cheese, but this following “remix” is full of amazing editing and transformative storytelling.

Jonathan McIntosh took Edward Cullen from Twilight and introduced him to Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Absolutely genius. And Jonathan, who goes by rebelliouspixels on YouTube, must know the Buffy series like the back of his hand after this feat of editing.

Origami

written by KatieMann on Jun 22

These exquisitely simple pieces are created with the same techniques as the paper origami tradition, but instead a single sheet of fine silver or 24 K gold are used to give the pieces some modern flare.  From silver cranes and lotus flowers to sail boats and letters, Origami Bijou has taken this ancient art into the world of fine jewelry.

One Heck of an iPhone Case

Imagine carrying this thing around. Now, what do you do when you get a call?

I’m seeing a pattern emerge in some of the posts I’m making here. And I like it.

Created by Kyle Bean, this “History of the Cellphone” is a clever take on the evolution of technology.

I Like Bread and Butter…

written by KatieMann on Jun 18

Try this brown bag twist on the stacked ring. The sandwich ring by Carrie Weston Accessories is made from 14K, multicolored gold. White and yellow gold are shaped into 5 pieces (2 slices of bread, lettuce, meat, and cheese) and stacked to your liking.

Pirates of the Trans-Siberian

written by LeviBethune on Jun 17

TSO, as their fans call them, is formally known as The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They began as most metal bands do, with a name like Savatage, but these blokes had something new up their tight leather sleeve: A violinist. They began covering classical music and that eventually led to Christmas music. Even if you haven’t ever heard of them, you’ve probably heard their version of Carol of the Bells on the Radio between Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day.

Clearly inspired by TSO, this YouTube user, who rocks out to the name hayatebune(which is the name of his band), created a metal version of the motion picture soundtrack theme from Pirates of the Caribbean.
