Quantum of Fanmade

written by LeviBethune on May 29

I love watching a good movie trailer. It’s almost like watching a movie with no time to spare. A good movie should always tell a story, have good pacing, and leave you wanting more. That is what a good trailer does, except a trailer does it in less than 3 minutes and leaves you wanting much more. In the time that it takes you to pop your popcorn, the story has been told.

When the latest(and greatest?) Bond movie was teased, I couldn’t get enough of the trailer. It was edited brilliantly, told the story of a fresh Double-0 agent who is trying to find himself, all while trying to uncover the mystery behind a threatening organization. The movie itself is a healthy representation of what you can expect from the trailer.

And this, my fans, is a healthy representation of what it should be like every time a fan gets excited about the things they love.

Eat your heart out Bond, James Bond.

The Invasion is Coming

Well, I am going to take a page out of my good friend Levi’s book and give you a Craig’s Top 3 – Space Invaders. Everyone loves retro games and Space Invaders is a personal favorite. I remember spending hours as a child playing it. And for good reason, its just plain fun. And so are these fan made creations.

Having trouble getting your kids to take bath. Are you having trouble finding motivation to take a bath. Well look no farther. Yes, Digitalsoaps has made a Space Invaders soap set.

What I wouldn’t give to have one of these in my house.

Ok, so playing in real life is pretty cool. But what I like the most here is the orchestra playing the game’s soundtrack live while the guy plays. The audio is a little hard to hear.

My Name is Katie, and I’m a Fan. (Hello Katie)

As a kid, I was obsessed with glitter. My mom gave me a glitter glue set, and let me tell you what, my dolls and just about everything else in my room (including the carpet) had a little more glam by the end of the day. Now, as an older version of that little girl, I’ve expanded my creative energy into the wonderful world of fashion. You see, I’ve always had and still have a passion for “pretty” things… let me explain.

When I say pretty, I’m really speaking of beauty (a close cousin… or maybe its twin that was separated at birth? We may never know… back to the point).  Beauty encompasses a great deal to me, including all forms of expression and communication, whether that be a great story that inspires a kid to dream and imagine, a cleverly written song that tickles your ears, a t-shirt that makes someone smile, a dance that causes an astonished curse word to escape your lips, or picture that tilts your head with a thoughtful “hmm”. And I might be speaking only for myself, but this is beauty to me. It’s anything and everything that helps me appreciate this life of mine and the lives of others. It’s the thing that leads you to embrace the quirky, unique creature that you are and makes the best of the world in which we eccentric individuals interact.

So if you’re a fan of beauty, then I’m a fan yours.

Think Green

In brightest day, in darkest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power… Green Lantern’s Light!

The Green Lantern Corp. is one of the most ingenious ideas of the Golden Age of Comics. A police force charged with keeping the justice of an entire universe is freakin’ epic!

This fan made trailer, from jaronpitts, is scratching me where I itch and has left me wondering… when is that Green Lantern move due out?!

(Thanks to Mattias Alegro for sending this in.)

Levi’s Top 3: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Daft Punk fans are awesome. Just as ridiculously creative as the helmet-clad, French electro pop DJ duo they love so much. If you’re unfamiliar with Daft Punk, then I suggest you get familiar, and then feast your eyes upon the ingenuity of these fine fans.

Sesame Street fans? Anyone? Yes, I see you in the back, thank you. This one goes out to you my friend.

Big Bird gets the topiary treatment in this herbal homage to Sesame Street.

Superman Reborn

Here is another trailer from WormyT (The guy who made the Thundercats trailer which consequentially inspired this site.) This is not the best fan made Superman trailer out there BUT it’s one of ‘em! The concept is amazing and Darkseid looks sick!

LEGO iMac

You should know something about us here at FanMadeDotOrg. We are huge Mac fans. Each of us own at least two Apple products, with a combined total of well over a dozen. AND, we are all big LEGO fans as well… So when this miniature version of the classic iMac g4 made with LEGOs came across our radar, it was like coming home.

This is yet another creation by Bjarne Tveskov, the LEGO sculptor.

Officially Unofficial

written by CraigKuhns on May 25

First things first, sorry that there are not pretty pictures or action packed movies in this post. What I am covering does not really lend itself to screen shots. What am I covering you may ask yourself. Well, I am glad you asked.

A while back I ranted about Square Enix targeting their fans and forcing them to shutdown ‘Crimson Echoes’, a fan made Chrono Trigger game. Today I would like to celebrate the late Robert Jordan (whose real name is James Rigney), author of the epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time. He is a man who truly looked out for the best interest of his fans.

Way back in 1993 a group of fans got together and created a MUD, a text based online role playing game, based off of the Wheel of Time books. Clearly they were infringing on Robert Jordan’s intellectual property, but instead of getting upset and shutting them Robert empowered them to use his works and to expound upon them.

Don’t just take my word for it, read what the Wheel of Time Mud has to say about it and read the letter from Robert Jordan himself.

I know it is not full of the graphical goodies that we have all come to expect from our video games, but if you love role playing games and have some spare time check this MUD out. I promise you you won’t regret it.
